Obituary: Maria Urso, 82; Retired Nathaniel Witherell Employee

Maria Urso, formerly of Riverside, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, 2013. She was 82.

Maria was born on July 8, 1931, to Oscar and Carmela Chiappetta Urso.

She grew up in Riverside and attended Greenwich schools. She was employed by the Town of Greenwich, working at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home, until her retirement in 1985. 

A member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Riverside, her favorite activities included ballroom dancing, traveling and reading. 

She is survived by her three siblings, Pia (Urso) Pellicano of Ocala, FL; Rocco Urso and his wife Heidy, of Bonita Springs, FL and Gina (Urso) Cannito, and her husband Joe, of Brooksville, FL. She also is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave, Greenwich. Followed by a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Burial to be at noon at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on North Street in Greenwich.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Epilepsy Foundation at epilepsyfoundation.org. The family wishes to thank the staff of Meigs Nursing Station at Madison House, Madison, CT, for their care and compassion.
