Robert J. Bray, 77; Retired Bank Executive, US Army Veteran



Robert J. 'Bob' Bray of Cos Cob, and a longtime Greenwich resident, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the age of 77 after a brief illness.

He was born in Bronx, NY, on March 6, 1936, to the late Ethel Strachan and Edward J. Bray, and moved with his family to Old Greenwich in 1944. He attended Old Greenwich School and was graduated from Greenwich High School in 1954 and St. Lawrence University in 1958, earning a B.A. degree in Business Administration. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. 

Bob worked in the banking industry for 30 years, primarily at State National Bank of CT, where he formed and ran a department handling all of the larger corporate clients for Fairfield County and became Senior Commercial Loan Officer and Vice President.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sigrid (Sigi) his children, Edward J. Bray and his wife, Heather, of Riverside, Robert A. Bray and Scott C. Bray of Cos Cob, and his seven grandchildren Eddie, Robert, Ally, Christian, Matthew, Helen, and Fisher, all of whom he adored; and his brother Edward, and his wife, Marilyn, of Prescott Valley, AZ. 

Bob especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's football, rugby and ice hockey games and cheerleading events. He was an avid NY Giants fan. He enjoyed fishing, boating and sailing in Greenwich and in Maine, where he vacationed with his family.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Fred D. Knapp Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich. A service will be held Monday, Sept. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
