Funeral for Greenwich Police Sgt. Roger A. Petrone Jr. Will Be Held Wednesday


Roger A. Petrone Jr. passed away at his home in Stamford on Feb. 20, 2014, after a six-and-a-half-year fight with ALS. He was 44.

Known by most A RJ, he was born in Stamford, on Nov. 2, 1969, the son of Patricia Humphrey and the late Roger A. Petrone Sr. 

He was a 1988 graduate of Darien High School, where he was captain of the wrestling team and a member of the football team. Mr. Petrone achieved his lifelong dream in October 1994 by becoming a police officer with the Town Of Greenwich. He was promoted in 2003 to the rank of sergeant. He served with the Marine Division, the Special Response Unit, SCUBA Team and as a Field Training Officer. 

Some of his achievements included being the recipient of the Luciano Award ranking first in his graduating class at the Police Academy, the CPR life saving award, 2003 SWAT Challenge winner and winner of the ALS/TDI Stephen Milne Adventurous Spirit Award. 

Mr. Petrone enjoyed spending his time riding his motorcycle, flying planes, tending to his mini farm at his house and spending time at Moosehead Lake in Greenville, ME. Most importantly he enjoyed being a father to his daughter. 

He is survived by his daughter Sydney Petrone and her mother, Denise Petrone, both of Stamford; his brother Robert Petrone and two nieces Kaia and Kelcie Petrone of Darien; his step-father Walter Humphrey of Stockbridge, VT and step-brother Scott Humphrey of Stamford. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Fred D. Knapp  & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave, Greenwich. The funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26  at St. Mary’s Church, 178 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich.
