Vito A. Romano, 89; Greenwich YMCA Retiree

Vito A. Romano, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away on Oct. 16. He was 89.

Born on Jan. 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Vito and Carmella Iannone.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Romano worked as an upholsterer for Stamford Chair Repair for more than 30 years, formerly in Stamford, Mt. Vernon Die Cast for 27 years, and retired from the Greenwich YMCA.

He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Walker of Suffern, NY, Patricia Romano, Janice Richichi and her husband Anthony of Stamford, three sons, Vito Romano and his wife Kathleen of Ridgefield, Michael Romano and his wife Cheryl of Stamford, Robert Romano and Lisa of Milford; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Fiorino Romano, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years, Catherine Riley Romano. He also was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Delmont, Mae Forgue and Carmella DeCamp; four brothers, Daniel, Nicholas, Leonard and Salvatore Romano, three half-brothers and one half-sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at St. Cecilia's Church, 1184 Newfield Ave., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Darien.

Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 18.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, 535 Connecticut Ave., Norwalk, CT 06854.
