Charcoal Sketching and Pastel Art Class - YWCA - Gretrude White Gallery

When: Saturdays starting Sept. 17 - Dec. 10; 9:30 - 10:30 AM.

Why Go: A nurturing art class for children ages 5 and up. The young artists will be inspired to use their imagination and creativity as they explore charcoal and pastels. Students will learn techniques such as color, line, composition, shading, perspective and art history. This 10-week class will be taught in a warm, nurturing environment by local artist, Jo Ann O'Hara.

 - Storehouse Gallery and Vanderbilt Education Center at Greenwich Historical Society, 39 Strickland Rd., Cos Cob; 203-869-6899

When: Saturday, September 17; 2 - 4 PM.

Why Go: Exhibit that chronicles the story of Greenwich's fire, police and emergency medical service workers and a day to recognize the service, collaboration and everyday acts of heroism of our first-responder community. Event will include refreshments ,music, family activities, VIP remarks and an official proclamation by First Selectman Peter Tesei. Reservations required.

Pricing: Adults: $10; Students and Seniors: $8; Members and children under six: Free.

13th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic - -Greenwich Medical Building at 49 Lake Ave., Greenwich  

When: Sunday, September 18; noon - 3 PM. Event is rain or shine, under a tent in the parking lot.

Why Go: The Teddy Bear Clinic affords children a great way to learn about good healthy habits and to put a friendly face on medical care. The event familiarizes kids with hospital staff and procedures and might even inspire them to join the hospital's healthcare team some day! It's a fun afternoon of hands-on learning. Last year’s event drew more than 1,100 participants.

Youngsters are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll for evaluation and treatment by doctors, nurses and other health professionals from more than 30 hospital departments and specialties. Depending on the diagnosis, X-rays, ultrasound, surgery, splints or stitches may be ordered.
