Readers of this site are familiar with State Representative Fred Camillo. He's been a loyal public servant to this town by representing our needs in Hartford for four years. During the this election, Fred's position and record have been shared many times over. I'd like to share a personal testimonial as a neighbor and constituent in the 151st District.
Fred Camillo defines all that is good and right with public service in state politics. This became immediately apparent when our neighborhood was targeted by AT&T to install a cell tower next door to my home. My neighbors and I didn't know where to turn or what to do. A friend suggested that we call Fred. I'm glad we did. Fred contacted me immediately to listen to our situation. He was very familiar with what AT&T was trying to do and, with only a couple days notice during Thanksgiving, he stood in my living room with a dozen neighbors to learn about our plight. In Fred we found genuine concern and leadership to help us fight what we felt was an attack on our homes and a clear violation of the property rights of every Greenwich homeowner.
However, Fred did more than just listen. He also took immediate action on several fronts: he helped us map out our strategy with state officials and boards; he gave us guidance on how to best educate and work with the Town's Board of Selectmen and RTM; and he made it a point to contact us by phone or email, in some cases, multiple times a day. He made every meeting when we invited him whether it was in a kitchen, or Town Hall, and he gave powerful testimony before the state's Siting Council at a public hearing back in February. Fred was there to serve the needs of a neighborhood in his district.
Before this situation occurred, I didn't know Fred. I had neither met him, nor was I a supporter. I am now. Fred represents every quality that defines public service: listening, taking action, leading. Fred deserves to be back up in Hartford serving the needs of the 151st district. I'm for Fred and I hope that readers of this page will be, too.
