What: 10th Annual Festival of Lighthouses Display
When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (except Christmas Day) through Jan. 16, 2012
Where: Maritime Aquarium (10 N. Water St., Norwalk; 203-852-0700)
Details: Head to the aquarium and stroll a trail illuminated by 24 lighthouses — built with everything from stone, gingerbread and toilet paper tubes to sugar cubes from France — at this popular annual event. Then, vote for your favorite one. The lighthouse with the most votes wins $1,500. Free with aquarium admission ($12.95 for adults; $11.95 for seniors; $9.95 for children ages 2-12).
What: Holiday Cooking Class
When: Saturday, Dec. 3; 1 p.m.
Where: Barcelona Wine Bar (18 W. Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT; 203-983-6400)
Details: Make savory food for the holidays with a Spanish twist. Executive Chef Jodi Bernhard leads a small class through hands-on instruction in preparing risotto and paella using seasonal ingredients, including chestnuts, duck and cranberries. Cost is $35 per person.
What: Annual Holiday Tree Lighting
When: Saturday, Dec. 3; 4-6 p.m.
Where: Byram Shubert Library (21 Mead Ave., Greenwich; 203-531-0426)
Details: Crafts, music and a holiday buffet awaits attendees of this annual Holiday Tree Lighting and open house celebration. In previous years a surprise visitor has arrived on a motorcycle, a tractor and a fire engine. Can't wait to see how they will arrive this year!
What: Cotton Club Greenwich Annual Holiday Party, Toy Drive and Trim a Tree
When: Wednesday, Dec. 7; 7:30 p.m.
Where: Tomes-Higgins House, 254 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich
Details: Head to the historic Tomes Higgins House to help decorate a tree while enjoying food and wine. Bring three mini ornaments or an unwrapped toy, which will be donated to needy families.
What: Music for a Winter’s Eve
When: Sunday, Dec. 11; 4 p.m.
Where: Second Congregational Church, 139 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich
Details: The Westfair Singers, a women’s chamber choral ensemble under the direction of Mary Jane Newman, celebrates its 25th anniversary with this Christmas music program. Organist Anthony Newman, organist, trumpeter David Glukh, flutist Zara Lawler and pianist Andrew Gordon will perform inspiring classics.
What: Young Children’s Family Service (YCFS) Latkes and Pajamas
When: Friday, Dec. 15; 5:30 p.m.
Where: Temple Sholom (300 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich; 203-542-7165)
Details: Head to Temple Sholom for a special Chanukah edition of Young Children’s Family Service with Reb Allison and special guest Sheldon Low. The best part? Kids are encouraged to come in their pajamas, sing songs and enjoy homemade latkes. Bring a pair of new, unwrapped pajamas in support of The Pajama Program, which donates new pajamas and storybooks to children in foster care and group homes. What: Festive Holiday Floral Arrangements with Miriam Landsman and George Von tobel
When: Monday, Dec. 19; 10 a.m.
Where: Garden Education Center of Greenwich (130 Bible Street, Cos Cob; 203-869-9242)
Details: Make gorgeous holiday decorations with floral artists Miriam Landsman and George Von tobel. Attendees will work to enhance an artificial table wreath surrounded by silvery mint julep cups filled with holiday greens. Bring clippers! The cost is $85 for members, $100 for non-members.
