USDA Approves Opening of Horse Slaughter Plant in NM

I have addressed the possible, then pending, reinstitution of horse slaughter in the USA in a number of the CT Patch pages, as well as in the Stamford Advocate, the Hartford Courant, and Voices, a paper that serves 17 communities in the Southbury area. Well, it isn’t pending anymore. Congressman Jim Moran, co-chair of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, released a statement voicing his disappointment at the USDA’s approval of horse slaughter at Valley Meat in New Mexico. Unless something very dramatic happens, such as President Obama signing an executive order banning horse slaughter immediately, our American horses will be slaughtered at three different slaughter plants. Please, if you haven’t been in touch with Senator Murphy, call his office and “just say no.” Call Senator Blumenthal, who is anti-horse slaughter. Call the Office of the President, there is a comment line. Do something.
