Professional commitment (membership and associations) of Patrick Baugier

Because wine is his passion, Patrick Baugier, is the CEO of Metrowine and Capital Millesime.

Educated in law at the University D’Assas, Paris, Patrick Baugier, CEO of Metrowine, founded the company in 1988. While this at first may seem at odds with his formal education in the law, in fact, it is in keeping with a long tradition - the Patrick Baugier family has produced and marketed exceptionally high quality wines since the seventeenth century. Patrick Baugier followed his father into the family business, bringing with him experience in financial management, acquired through his work experience after spending four years studying laws, and the family’s traditional, inherited skills in viticulture.

Patrick Baugier founded Metrowine with a noble aim - to introduce wine connoisseurs in the United States to the finest french wines, heretofore unknown in America. From a small, but ambitious start up, Metrowine has grown year on year to become the Bordeaux region’s second largest dealer of wine. Bordeaux being France’s premier wine district, this was no small achievement. The company now handles more than 4,500 accounts, representing wine lovers from businessmen to world famous chefs.

However, Patrick Baugier’s ambition was not yet sated with the founding of Metrowine, and in 2001 he set up Vintage Capital Wine LLC. Focusing on distribution of fine vintages, it disseminates wine all over the land. Yet, Patrick Baugier’s passion for wine runs still deeper - he is also the CEO of another company, Capital Meillesime SAS another fine wine business that deals exclusively with close to 200 Bordeaux Classified Growers.

It is due to Patrick Baugier’s exceptional leadership that his original firm, Metrowine, has become one of the top distributors in New York. The key to his success is exclusivity - Metrowine deals with only the highest end luxury wines, and only those with a tastefully small production rub. One of Metrowine’s greatest assets is its customer service. This combines, with a long standing reputation for reliability, has seen the company expand it’s US interests from New York to Connecticut, where it has a large warehouse, which compliments the even larger facility in New York. The, biggest development by far though, has been Metrowine’s Bordeaux wine funds, which total more than $40 million in value.

Although the brains behind all of his businesses, Patrick Baugier does not work alone - he is widely credited with recruiting only the best marketing and management talent to facilitate Metrowine’s growth. Patrick Baugier’s expertise has allowed him to steadily link the best French growers with United States based connoisseurs, who appreciate their products. Despite the long journey between France and the United States, such is the high skilled precision behind Metrowine’s organisation that Patrick Baugier himself takes pride in every single bottle arriving in impeccable condition.

The future for Patrick Baugier and Metrowine, however, lies outside of just Bordeaux, as Patrick Baugier now sources 150 American wines, double that of Italian labels, and also imports and exports a wide selection of vintages from all over the world, making Metrowine more than just a French-American business, but a global one, with global importance. All of Patrick Baugier’s companies, however, would not be the successes they are, with the global reach that they have, were it not for one key element – Patrick Baugier’s passion for his business and his simple love of a good wine.
