20-Plus Vehicle Pile Up on an Icy I-95 Shut Down Highway Overnight


Greenwich Police say icy road conditions led to more than 20 vehicles sliding into one another on southbound I-95 late Sunday, leading to the closure of the road.

Lt. Robert Berry said none of the injuries appeared to be serious in the series of crashes that prompted closure of the highway.  The Mianus River Bridge between southbound exits 5 and 4 in Riverside and Cos Cob, about 11:15 p.m. Sunday for about two hours, according to emergency personnel posts on social media.

According to a report in The Republic, Connecticut State Police dispatch said early Monday that about 20 vehicles were involved with six injuries reported.

Berry said with the help of the Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol, traffic was diverted to local roads but given the hour of the crash overnight on a Sunday, the impact on traffic was minimal.
