After Hitting the Curb, Driver Faces DWI Charge

Hitting the curb and driving onto the sidewalk is what led Greenwich Police to arrest a local man on a driving while intoxicated charge.

According to a police report, the driver was seen by an off-duty Greenwich officer stopped in the right lane of West Putnam Avenue and Holly Hill Lane at a traffic light about 3 a.m. Nov. 2, when he saw a driver try to pass him on the right, striking the curb and mounting the sidewalk before turning onto Holly Hill Lane.

The officer saw the driver continue on Holly Hill "striking the right curb several times" before parking on Harold Avenue, according to the report. On-duty officer responded to the scene who found the driver had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech, and failed field sobriety tests.

The driver, identified as Henry R. Perez, 38, of St. Roch Place, Greenwich, was charged with driving while intoxicated, passing on the right and failure to signal. Perez was unable to post a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear Nov. 18 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
