Apple Store Robbed - Again [Update]

Gang of 5 snatch laptops from display Sunday afternoon; similar theft happened in White Plains, NY. on Friday.

About an hour before closing Sunday afternoon, a group of five teens snatched seven laptops from a display inside the Apple store on Greenwich Avenue.

"They ran in and grabbed varioius electronics and fled out of the store," said Greenwich Police Capt. Mark Marino, head of the detective division. He described the band of thieves as "five black men in their teens ... who were able to make their way out of the store in less than a minute."

The group fled to a car and left the area. "We do have a description of a vehicle that was parked in close proximity" to the store, Marino said. He did not release the description and added "we will be reviewing the video surveillance" for more clues. A total of seven laptops with a value of $8,000 to $10,000 were taken.

Marino also said detectives will be investigating "a similar incident at the Apple store in White Plains" that also happened Sunday.

The Apple Store in The Westchester experienced its  on Friday night, after two men made off with four MacBook Pros valued at $1,000 each.

At 8:07 p.m., two men allegedly walked into the store, ripped the security tags off of two MacBook Pros each and ran out of the store toward the Crate and Barrel exit. According to the reports, the entire theft occurred in a total of 20 seconds.

One man was wearing a red or pink shirt, dark jeans and sneakers, while the other man was wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. Surveillence videos were made available from both the store and the mall, however, poor video quality prevented the police from identifying the suspects any further.

The incident is being treated as a felony grand larceny in the fourth degree.)

The Westchester theft is not the first in that jurisdiction. On Aug. 2, to the Apple Store in The Westchester after five men seemingly pulled off a joint theft of iPhones. According to the store’s manager—the group of men, described as being in their late teens, allegedly walked into the store and simultaneously ripped the security cables off of five fourth-generation iPhones before running out.

Sunday's incident is the latest in a series of events involving the popular store at 356 Greenwich Ave., since it opened in November 2009.

Last Dec. 14, at least five burglars stole several thousands of dollars worth of electronics after smashing the front door. Video surveillance show the group rushing into the store, grabbing several electronics, running back out, and jumping into a car, according to MyFoxNY.com.

In April, the store was closed for more than a day after , flooding the store.

Last week, local merchants were vocal with their opposition to and criticism of Apple seeking permission to install a floor-to-ceiling steel security gate inside the windows of its store, according to Greenwich Time. A spokesman at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., did not comment on the proposal.
