Arrest in Church Collection Box Theft

Greenwich Police say surveillance video helped to identify suspect.

 

Surveillance video helped identify the man suspected of pilfering money from a collection box at on Greenwich Avenue.

According to a police report, police had obtained an arrest warrant for Thomas A. McMurray, 52, of 1838 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield, charging him with two counts each of sixth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal trespass in connection with a June 11 incident.

"McMurray was observed on video surveillance stealing an undetermined amount of cash from a collection box," according to the report. Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray said there were two thefts from the collection box.

Fairfield Police located and detained McMurray on Aug. 4 for Greenwich Police. McMurray was released on a promise to appear Aug. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

This is the second arrest Greenwich Police have made in recent months in connection with the theft of cash from local churches. In June, police Sunday collection money from in Riverside. 20.
