Burglars Hit Round Hill Road Home

Greenwich Police say entry made through 2nd-floor balcony.

Residents of a Round Hill Road home apparently startled burglars who gained entry through an unlocked second floor balcony on Thursday night.

The residents of the home in the 400 block of Round Hill Road called Greenwich Police shortly after 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 to report hearing noises in the home.

"Officers responded and confirmed that there had been a burglary but the suspects had fled prior to the arrival of the police. Initial investigation reveled that the suspect(s) entered the home through a second story balcony," according to Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray.

Gray said, "It's not common nationally but they do happen. There is a small percentage of our burglaries that are second-floor jobs. There has been a small uptick in that rate." He said that an uptick has occurred in both Fairfield and Westchester counties. However, Gray could not provide statistics. He said that residents should make sure they lock upper floor entrances such as balconies and windows.

"Obviously we are working with our sister agencies to see if there are any similarities," Gray said. He also would not comment on whether similiar items taken during the burglaries.

"Residents need to make sure they have strong locks and windows (on the second floor). There are many crime prevention tactics and systems available," Gray said. "It is up to the homeowner to decide. The more you do, the better off you are."

Gray declined to specify what was taken from the Round Hill Road home. "It is under investigation," he said.
