Burned Out Headlight Leads to Drug Arrest

A driver stopped in Byram because a headlight was burned out in his Cadillac Escalade faces multiple motor vehicle and drug charges, according to Greenwich Police.

Sameh A. Attia, 38, of 500 Newfield Ave., Stamford, was arrested about 6:45 p.m. Aug. 7 after he was stopped on Delavan Avenue near Tingue Street, according to a police report.

Police say it turned out the Cadillac's registration expired in October 2012 and Attia had a suspended driver's license. The police officer's canine partner gave several positive alerts for narcotics in the vehicle, according to the report.

Inside, police found two crack pipes and a coffee spoon, all with cocaine residue, digital scales and prescription pills for which Attia did not have a prescription, according to the report.

Attia was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating with a suspended icense, failure to have lights illiminated, illegally tinted windows, illegal possession or manufacturing of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and possession of drugs within 1,500 feet of a school or day care center.

He was unable to post $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Aug. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
