Cook Faces Charges Following Kitchen Dispute in Greenwich

The suspect reportedly said he would hurt and kill co-workers.

Things apparently got a little hot in the kitchen at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich over the weekend.

Just before noon on June 28, there was an argument between a cook and staff in the kitchen and it ended with Greenwich Police arresting the cook, according to police.

"They were arguing over work-related matters and it got personal," said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.

Jorge Hernando Mateus, 57, of 165 Grand St., Mamaroneck, NY, was charged with disorderly conduct and threatening.

Here is the account of what investigating officers wrote in their report:
" ... a cook (was) causing a disturbance. The investigation concluded that Jorge Mateus stated to multiple employes that he wanted to physically hurt them by punching them and that he would kill them using a gun."

No one was injured in the incident.

Mateus was released on a $96 bond and scheduled to appear July 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
