Cos Cob Husband Accused of Assaulting Wife

A Cos Cob man is facing a number of charges stemming from an domestic violence incident in which his wife was injured, according to Greenwich Police.

The 50-year-old woman, who police said had facial bruises, went to police headquarters about 2 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16 to report she had been assaulted by her 46-year-old husband at the couple's Cos Cob home, according to police.

The woman told police her husband grabbed her by the neck, punched her several times, threw her against kitchen cabinets and threatened her with a kitchen knife, according to a police report. The woman also said that when she tried to call police, her husband took her phone and smashed it.

The woman was taken to Greenwich Hospital for evaluation of her injuries, according to Lt. Kraig Gray.

When officers went to the home, the husband said he accidentally broke the phone and grabbed her by the neck to help her up off the floor where she fell because she was intoxicated, according to the report. The man also said he used a knife only to cut a sandwich.

The man was charged with second-degree strangulation, second-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, interfering with a 911 call, threatening and third-degree assault. He was unable to post $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear Dec. 16 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
