Cos Cob Man Faces Burglary Charges [UPDATE]

Suspect held on $150K bond set on charges he stole from neighbor.

An early Sunday burglary on Bible Street in Cos Cob lead Greenwich Police to arrest a man on charges he broke into a neighbor's residence and tried to steal rifles, ammuntion for the guns and a watch.

The victim identified the suspect to police who found him a short time later down the street in the Bible Street Park parking lot entrance to the Montgomery Pinetum. "There was a little foot pursuit into the woods and he surrendered without incident," according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray.

The two rifles were found at the scene of the burglary and the suspect was found to have ammo for the guns and a watch belonging to the victim, Gray also said. The suspect is accused of forcing his way into the basement of the home shortly before 7 a.m. The theft was interrupted by the resident, Gray said.

The suspect was identified as Robert E. Eberheim, 22, who gave an address of 33 Bible St., was charged with first-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, interfering with police, false statement and 2 counts of firearms theft.

Eberheim was held in lieu of $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
