[UPDATE] Repairs of Downed Power Pole on Greenwich-Stamford Border Should Be Completed Soon

Updated at 4:10 p.m.:
A construction payloader ran into and knocked down a utility pole, causing a power outage and road closure in backcountry Greenwich Friday morning where the borders of Greenwich, Stamford and Banksville converge, according to a Connecticut Light & Power spokesman.

"Originally there were 21 customers affected by the broken pole. Now there are three customers affected, who are served by the transformer on the pole," said spokesman Theresa Gilbert.

"It was a unique situation to repair," Gilbert said. "Because it is on the border, there also are New York utilities on the street. We had to call the Call Before You Dig lines and have both Connecticut and New York utilities come to the scene to check for underground utilities."

She said power should be restored and the road reopened by 5 p.m.

It was not immediately known whether the payloader operator was injured in the incident.
