Driver Busted on Pot, Motor Vehicle Charges

A 26-year-old Stamford man was arrested on marijuana possession and motor vehicle charges after Greenwich Police stopped him on Delavan Avenue near Byram Shore Road for not having a front license plate on the vehicle he was driving late Sunday.
Orlando Velez, who gave an address of 288 Montauk Drive, was charged after police said they found a marijuana cigarette in a front ash tray and a small glassine bag with suspected marijuana in a rear ash tray of the vehicle they found was not registered. The registration expired last August.
According to a police report, officers searched the car before arranging it to be impounded at about 11:30 p.m.

Velez was charged with possession of marijuana, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and illegible license plate. He was released on a promised to appear Feb. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
