Driver Faces Drug Charges

Motorist stopped for having an inoperative brake light, making improper turn arrested on variety of drug charges.

conducting a special drunk driving enforcement effort on Super Bowl Sunday arrested a motorist who they say had marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his car.

According to a Greenwich Police report, the driver was stopped on Railroad Avenue at 7:46 p.m. Feb. 5 after he was seen making an improper turn and having an inoperative brake light. Officers said there was an odor of marijuana coming from the car. Police found suspected marijuana, a smoking pipe, a marijuana grinder, a digital scale and a large quantity of plastic bags in the car.

The driver was identified as David S. Lawrence, 22, who gave an address of 157 Ursula Pl., Stamford. He was charged with illegal possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting a $500 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford. He also received a written warning for the motor vehicle violations, according to the report.

A 16-year-old Greenwich boy was given a juvenile summons for illegal possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a Jan. 31 incident.

According to a Greenwich Police report, the teen was found to have more than a half-ounce of marijuana by officers investigating a report that a juvenile was smoking pot with friends at a private residence. The teen was released and scheduled to appear Feb. 21 in the Juvenile Matters division of state Superior Court in Stamford.

A West Haven resident was arrested on a sixth-degree larceny charge in connection with the theft of a cellphone.

Javoni Capozziello, 23, who gave an address of 30 Tampa St., West Haven, was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 3. The cellphone was reported stolen on Jan. 4. Details of the theft were not provided by police. Capozziello was scheduled to appear Feb. 6 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
