Driver Faces DWI Charge on New Year's Eve

A Greenwich man is facing a driving while intoxicated charge after Greenwich Police say they stopped him because he ran a stop sign.

According to a police report, the driver was observed failing to stop at the stop sign on Byram Road at West Putnam Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 31.

Gary C. McMaster, 57, of Milbank Avenue, had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and was lethargic, according to the report. He also reportedly failed field sobriety tests.

McMaster was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to obey a stop sign. He was held in lieu of $250 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
