Driver Faces Hit-and-Run Charges; License Plates Stolen

A Greenwich resident faces charges he left the scene of an accident, after he hit a  car parked on South Water Street in the Byram section of town.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Alberto Altamirano, 42, of 8 Weaver St., Greenwich, was tracked down by police using information provided by witnesses to the Jan. 5 incident reported just after 4 p.m. Officers found his car parked in a driveway near the accident scene at the end of South Water Street, according to the report.

Altamirano was charged with evading responsibility, operating without a license and unsafe movement. He was released after posting a $250 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Thieves pilfer license plates

Two sets of license plates were reported stolen from cars parked in Greenwich.

According to Greenwich Police both thefts were reported about 4:15 p.m. Jan. 4. One owner who reported the plates missing was unsure of when the theft occurred but noticed them missing Friday afternoon. The second motorist noticed their plates missing when returning to their car parked in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue, also about 4:15 p.m. Friday.
