Driver Nabbed for Leaving Accident Scene; Teen Charged with Assault

A New York man has been arrested on several motor vehicle charges stemming from a hit-and-run accident Monday evening.

Thomas M. Davitt, 42, of 22 Riverview St., Port Ewen, NY, was arrested on operating an unregistered motor vehicle, evading responsibility, followling too closely and classification of driver's license. According to a police report, Davitt is accused of rear-ending a car on West Putnam Avenue, near Dearfield Drive shortly before 6 p.m. Monday and left the scene. He was caught near Exit 3 of I-95 a short time later. The other driver was uninjured.

Davitt was released after posting $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear July 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A 15-year-old youth was arrested on 3rd-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges following a fight with another teen outside Greenwich High School on Friday.

According to a Greenwich Police report, the victim reported being "jumped" by the suspect near athletic fields behind the school, following summer school classes. The suspect admitted to being involved ina fight with the victim and was arrested.

The teen was released on a promise to appear July 19 in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford.
