Duo Faces Charges in Radio Shack Shoplifting Incident

Two men, who Greenwich Police say have robbery, larceny and shoplifting convictions, are facing shoplifting charges in connection with an incident at the Radio Shack in Cos Cob.

According to a Greenwich Police report, a trio of men entered the shop at 160 Post Rd. before 7 p.m. Feb. 21 and were "recognized by the manager as shoplifters from previous events" at the store. The manager called police and several officers arrived, surrounding the building.

Officers found two men inside the store and a third walking through an adjacent parking lot.

Lt. Kraig Gray said two of the suspects were found to have "keys of a proprietary design fro Radio Shack that only Radio Shack employees can have to unlock display cases" with expensive merchandise. The keys were stolen from another Radio Shack store and police are working with Radio Shack to determine where and when the keys were taken, Gray said.

Charged with possession of a shoplifting device and sixth-degree larceny by possession were Charlton L. Hay, 26, and William A. Santana, 33, both of the Bronx, NY.

Neither man was able to post $1,000 bond. They were held to await a Feb. 28 appearance in state Superior Court in Stamford.

The third man was not charged. However, police said all three have "criminal histories for larcenies, robberies, shoplifting, possession of stolen property and possession of shoplifting devices.
