DWI, Drug Possession Arrests Continue

Police investigating a motor vehicle accident on South Water Street shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday arrested a driver on drunken driving charges.

Alfred Magnane, 65, who gave an address of 19 Drake Ave., Rye, N.Y., was charged after police said they said they detected an odor of alcohol and heared Magnane's slurred speech. Police said they found an empty bottle of Smirnoff vodka in the console of his car front seat.

According to police, Magnane failed field sobriety tests and twice refused to take al alcohol breath test. In addition to driving while intoxicated, Magnane was arrested on charges of  operating without a license, operating without insurance and unsafe movement. He was held in lieu of $250 bond and schedule to appear Feb. 1 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A Stamford man stopped by Greenwich Police for not having a front license plate on his BMW Wednesday afternoon, was arrested on pot possession charges.

According to Greenwich Police, Thomas Telesco, 19, who gave an address of 49 Muinko Drive, Stamford, was arrested about 1:30 p.m. in the 200 block of East Putnam Avenue. Officers smelled burning marijuana as they approached the car. According to a police report, Telesco handed over a smoking bowl to officers who found suspected marijuana beneath a car seat.

Telesco was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on a promise to appear Thursday in state Superior Court in Stamford. He also received a written warning for not having a front license plate.
