Fisherman Has the Hook, Line ... and a Ticket.

Information is supplied by Greenwich Police and does not indicate guilt or convictions.

The spring fishing season started last weekend. But keep one thing in mind – you need a license to fish.

And that’s the one thing a Stamford man apparently didn’t have Monday night. Nedzat Bojadzic, of 267 Soundview Ave., Stamford, was issued a misdemeanor summons for illegal fishing after a Greenwich Police officer spotted a man fishing the Mianus River fishway on East Putnam Avenue, near Valley Road, around 9:40 p.m. Monday.

“It is clearly posted that it is illegal to fish on that side of the bridge,” said police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. “He had no license. You need a license – you can’t have a rod in the water without a license. You don’t have to have a fish to get a ticket.”

The police report did not indicate whether Bojadzac caught any fish.

He was released on a promise to appear May 6 in state Superior Court in Stamford. The illegal fishing charge carries a $250 fine.

A man seen staggering while checking a flat tire of the car he was driving on East Putnam Avenue in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich was arrested on a drunken driving charge early Monday.

Carlos Hermin Martinez Lazaro, 31, of 24 Banksville Road, Bedford, NY, was arrested at around 3 a.m. Monday. According to a Greenwich Police report, officers saw him swaying as he looked at the flat tire and stagger back into his car. Inside the car, police say they found two partially drunk Heineken beers, three empty Heinekens and a full one.

Martinez Lazaro denied consuming alcohol, but police said he smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests. In addition to the drunk driving charge, he was ticketed for driving without a license. He posted a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear May 2 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
