Former Riverside Woman Slain in NYC

NYPD charges boyfriend with stabbing death.

A 23-year-old former Riverside woman died after she was found stabbed in her Lower East Side apartment in New York early Sunday.

According to published reports, graduate Sarah Coit was found in the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, who surrendered to police and was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the woman’s gruesome death.

According to the New York Post, several of Coit’s neighbors heard her pleas for help during an argument in the couple’s apartment about 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Neighbors told several New York news outlets they dialed 911. Police found Coit, who reportedly was a member of the Greenwich High School cross-country team, alive but she died about two hours later with several stabs wounds including a large gash in her throat, at Beth Israel Hospital.

Police have charged Raul Barrera, 33, in connection with the murder. He reportedly surrendered to police saying “I did something bad.” He was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge in Manhattan Criminal Court.

News reports said Coit was attempting to break up the relationship with Barrera.
