Greenwich Firefighters Extinguish Dryer Fire

No one was injured in the Monday afternoon fire.

Greenwich Firefighters made quick work extinguishing a dryer fire that belched heavy smoke out of a two-family home in the Byram section of Greenwich on Monday afternoon.

"There was heavy smoke coming out the front door and the windows which were open because it's a nice spring day," said Deputy Fire Chief Keith Millette. He said a gas-fired dryer caught fire inside a laundry closet on the first floor of the two-story brick home at 94 Henry St., at the corner of New Street — across from Sacred Heart Church.

The fire, reported after 3 p.m., was contained to the closet and there was smoke damage in the home, Millette said. Engines 1, 2, 3 and 4, Ladder 1 and the Station 5 rescue crew responded.

No injuries were reported, although one resident was checked out by Greenwich Emergency Medical Service, Millette said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Deputy Fire Marshal Rob Natale.
