Greenwich Man, 22, Faces Felony Charges after Drunk-Driving Accident

The 22-year-old on Saturday caused an accident on I-287, costing one of his passengers an ear, and another parts of three fingers.

State police in New York on Saturday arrested a 22-year-old Greenwich man following a pre-dawn car accident that cost one passenger parts of three fingers and another an ear.

Jose E. Delpezo was charged with multiple counts of second-degree vehicular assault, a felony, as well as driving under the influence, according to information supplied by New York State Police.

He is accused of driving his Acura TL into a Volkswagen GTI parked along the shoulder of Interstate 287 in Rye, at about 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 16. The Acura flipped over and VW pushed into the middle lane of 287, police said.

“The Acura overturned, injuring two passengers,” state police said in a press release.

“Neither driver sustained any injuries. The front seat passenger of the Acura sustained lacerations to his head, and partial amputation of 3 fingers. The rear passenger sustained a head laceration, broken leg, internal injuries, and amputation of an ear. The passengers of the Volkswagen sustained leg and back injuries.”

Passengers were transported to Westchester County Medical Center and Greenwich Hospital, police said.

Delpezo was arraigned in Rye Brook and remanded to the Westchester County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $500,000 secure bond. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 20. in the Town of Rye Court.
