A Greenwich man was reportedly killed in a single car accident on the Merritt Parkway near Exit 40 in Norwalk early Monday.
According to a report in the Stamford Advocate, citing statements by state police, Daniel L. Taylor, 38, was heading south on the Merritt Parkway at about 12:15 a.m. Feb. 4 when his 1997 BMW 740i sedan veered off the roadway, struck a wooden guard rail and careened down an embankment in the vicinity of Creeping Hemlock Drive.
Taylor was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
According to a press release from the Norwalk Fire Department, two engines and a rescue unit responded to the crash and provided lighting and other assistance. When firefighters arrived they learned that a state trooper had already extinguished a small fire in the driver's compartment of the car, which had suffered "extensive damage."
