A Greenwich man is facing several charges stemming from the robbery and assault of an acquaintance.

The suspect "suddenly attacked from behind to rob him" of approximately $1,000 in cash and jewelry, according to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. The robbery took place about 11 a.m. June 7 near the Town Hall Annex building on Havemeyer Place, across the street from Greenwich Police headquarters.

The suspect "knew the victim had a large amount of money on him," Gray said. The 24-year-old victim was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment of his injuries, Gray said.

Dennis J. Nardone, 19, was arrested by police, who obtained an arrest warrant, at his 29 N. Water St. home in Greenwich, about 3:30 p.m. June 23, according to a police report.

Nardone was charged with second-degree strangulation, third-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace. Nardone is being held in lieu of $50,000 and is scheduled to appear July 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.

Nardone is on probation for his conviction in December 2013 on credit card theft and possession of marijuana charges, according to the Judicial Branch.
