Greenwich Man Killed on Westchester Highway

A Greenwich man from the Chickahominy neighborhood of town was killed early Saturday when he was struck by a tandem tractor-trailer in Westchester County, according to a published report.

Antonio Hernandez, 24, of Hamilton Avenue, was struck at about 5 a.m. Nov. 23 as he walked along the shoulder of the Cross-Westchester Expressway in Harrison, NY and suddenly wandered onto the highway's right lane, according to The Journal News. He was taken to the Westchester County Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

New York State Police are reportedly investigating why Hernandez was walking on the highway as they could not locate any vehicle on the roadway belonging to him.

The truck driver, identified as Morton Cook, 51, of Barnegat, N.J., told police he tried to avoid hitting Hernandez by swerving. However, because of the length of the tandem trailer he could not avoid hitting Hernandez who was struck by the right rear of the second trailer, police said. No charges were filed against the driver.
