Greenwich Man Robbed at Gunpoint

Police say they think the robbery was planned and therefore not indicative of a rise in street crime.

A Greenwich resident was reportedly robbed of thousands dollars at gunpoint in broad daylight on Sept. 8, minutes after he sold a used car just across the New York state line in Port Chester.

Police said the male resident had just sold the car to another man at the teardrop-shaped intersection where West Putnam Avenue meets Byram Road and North Main Street, on the west side of town. Police said after the transaction occurred, someone drove the resident to Ann Street, in Greenwich. Police said as the resident exited the vehicle he was approached by a male suspect who brandished a gun and demanded cash.

Police said no shots were fired and the victim was able to provide a description of the suspect.

A 42-year-old female resident of Gisborne Lane was arrested via warrant and charged with interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct and risk of injury to a minor on Sept. 8 connection with a domestic dispute that took place at her residence on June 11. Police said they were called to the woman’s residence on that date on a report of a disturbance. Police said when the officers arrived, the woman, who was intoxicated at the time, was “wildly out of control” and resisted arrest. Police said the woman required medical treatment and was committed. Police said the incident involved family members and that a five-year-old had witnessed some of what occurred. The female turned herself in upon learning of the warrant. She posted a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 15.

Police said they uncovered a scam on Craigslist when a resident reported that people kept showing up at her Hettiefred Road home, which was for being advertised for sale, asking if they could rent it. Police said the first few times people asked if they could rent the house, the resident simply said no, it was only for sale, not for rent, and didn’t think much about it. But when people kept inquiring about renting the home, the homeowner finally became suspicious. Police investigated and discovered that someone had set up a fake ad for the house — using all the same information — on Craigslist, except the ad indicated the house was for rent, not for sale. The ad said anyone interested in renting the house should wire a $600 deposit to a certain destination using a wire service, whereupon a key to the house would be mailed. Police said they contacted Craigslist and requested that the bogus ad be removed.
