Greenwich Nursing Home Resident Faces Theft Charges

The resident is accused of stealing a debit card, withdrawing money to buy merchandise.


A resident of a Greenwich nursing home is facing charges he stole a debit card and car keys from the purse of a staff member at the facility.

The resident of the Greenwich Laurelton Nursing Home is accused of using the debit card to withdraw money from the employee's account and then purchase identified goods. The theft was reported about 6:25 p.m. July 4, according to a Greenwich Police report.

The resident, identified as Alan L. Van Valkenburg, 56, who is from Danbury, reportedly gave investigating officers a false name and birth date, according to the report.

Van Valkenburg was charged with sixth-degree larceny, fraudulent use of a credit card machine, credit card theft and interfering with an officer. He was unable to post $500 bond and is scheduled to appear July 11 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
