Greenwich Police Chief Helps Nab Alleged Drunk Driver

Officers were dispatched to the area of Field Point Road and Elm Street after Greenwich Chief of Police James Heavey reported that he had observed a vehicle traveling south on Brookside Drive with heavy front end damage and riding on its left front rim.

Kevin M. Cooney, 54, of 641 Round Hill Road was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving at about 9:37 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Field Point Road and Elm Street after Chief of Police James Heavey reported that he had observed a vehicle traveling south on Brookside Drive with heavy front end damage and riding on its left front rim, according to a police report.

After officers located the vehicle and stopped it, they observed that the operator, Cooney, was exhibiting signs of intoxication. He was administered a field sobriety test, which he reportedly failed.

Cooney was held on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 2.

The report does not state whether police determined what caused the damage to Cooney's car.
