Greenwich Police: Ex-Employee Burglarized Restaurant

A man, described by Greenwich Police as a former employee, was arrested late Sunday on charges he burglarized the restaurant where he used to work.

According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, Jorge A. Ramirez-Ortiz, 41, of 347 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich, is a former employee of the Fairways restaurant at the Griffith Harris Golf Course, 1323 King St. "On July 15 he came to the restaurant, intoxicated, to get his job back. He was barred from the restaurant," Gray said.

"On July 16 a burglary was committeed and he was caught on videotape," Gray said. Between $200 and $250 was taken from the cash register at the bar. Officers on surveillance detail at the restaurant on July 17, saw Ramirez-Ortiz enter the restaurant, take money from the register and leave. He was apprehended outside the restaurant shortly before midnight.

Ramirez-Ortiz was arrested on 1st-degree criminal trespass, 3rd-degree burglary and 6th-degree larceny charges. Information on when Rameriz-Ortiz was fired from or what he did at the restaurant were not available from police.

His bond was set at $25,000 and he was scheduled to appear July 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
