Greenwich Police Registration for Fall 2013 Citizen's Police Academy

Learn the truth about what it takes to fight crime in Greenwich in the 6-week Citizens Police Academy. Deadline to apply is Sept. 27th.

If you have ever wondered how real police solve real crimes in Greenwich day-to-day, here's your chance.

Greenwich Police are registering members of the community for its Fall 2013 Citizen's Police Academy. 

"Recruits" receive comprehensive instruction with the Greenwich Police Department, participate in a two hour ride-along with a police officer and have the opportunity for a three-hour marine instruction and ride-along on Long Island Sound with the GPD Marine Patrol.

  • Introduction to Policing
  • Use of Force
  • Patrol Procedures
  • Motor Vehicle Stops, DUI, and Accident Investigation
  • Special Response Unit 
  • Domestic Violence
  • Police K-9
  • Narcotics Investigation
  • Criminal Investigations/Special Victims Unit
  • Crime Scene Workshop
  • Fraud
  • Crime Prevention/Scams
Instructors for the program are highly trained and experienced Greenwich Police Officers. There is no fee for the six-week program, but space is limited to 40 students. All applications must be received no later than Friday, September 27, 2013 in order to be considered for a seat.

The program starts on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 and meets twice a week from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. A graduation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013.

Minimum age to participate is 18 and applicants must be Greenwich residents. Due to the high demand of this class, qualified applicants will be subject to a lottery drawing to determine the class roster.

The Citizen's Police Academy is a program that provides Greenwich residents/employees with a first hand overview of the law enforcement and community related functions of the Greenwich Police Department.
