Greenwich Police to Promote 2

Long-time department veterans to be promoted Aug. 9.

 

Two veteran police officers—Sgt. James Bonney and Technician Alton Hall—will be promoted in an Aug. 9 ceremony being planned by the Greenwich Police Department.

Bonney, a 21-year veteran, will be promoted to lieutenant and Hall, a 19-year veteran, is to be promoted to sergeant during an outdoor ceremony to be held at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 9 in front police headquarters on Bruce Place, otherwise known as Police Alley. Both men have extensive training and earned numerous awards during their careers.

Since 2009, Bonney has been the supervisor of the department's marine division. He has extensive training in marine and terrorist response tactics, drug enforcement, and earned his 100 ton Masters License from the U.S. Coast Guard 1999. He graduated from the Coast Guard's Marine Patrol Officer Instructor Course and Fast Boat Rescue School.

Bonney has a bachelor's degree from Dowling College and has been president of the police union, the Silver Shield Association, since 2006. He has received numerous commendations and was named the GPD's Officer of the Year in 2007.

Hall is the department's armorer and training technician for the GPD as well as the Connecticut Police Academy and other regional departments. Hall has received weapons training from the FBI and is a certified trainer in various weapons techniques including firearms and tactics, close quarters battle techniques and active shooter response.

Hall is a field training officer and a member of the department's Special Response Unit. He has received several top sniper awards and has finished as a member of the top team Connecticut SWAT Challenge and North American Sniper Summit for 3 of the past 5 years.

In 2002 he received the Dr. John Clarke Award, an annual award given for outstanding service to a Greenwich police officer by the Greenwich Kiwanis Club.
