Greenwich Police Want Your Weapons

The department will be holding a gun and weapon turn-in program this Saturday, June 22.

For the second time in four months, Greenwich Police is holding a firearms and weapons turn-in program.

Aimed at getting unwanted weapons off the street, Det. Anthony Fiscella said the focus of the program is to "collect all dangerous-unwanted weapons including ammunition."

Residents will be able to surrender the weapons at Greenwich Police Headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 22. In return, gift cards to Putnam Shell in Greenwich and Bennett Jewelers in Old Greenwich will be available, Fiscella said.

The previous weapon turn-in day was Feb. 23. "We had 14 long guns, three pistols, two BB guns, three BB rifles, a spear, a sword, knives and boxes of ammo turned in," Fiscella said.

For residents who may be hesitant to bring the weapon to headquarters, "they can call me (203-622-8021) or call the department's non-emergency number (203) 622-8004 and we'll arrange for an officer to come and pick up the weapon at home," Fiscella added.
