Greenwich Woman Faces DWI and Narcotics Charges

Driving at high speed and failing to turn left while in a left turn only lane draws officer's attention, police said.

A Greenwich woman faces charges of drunk driving and possession of narcotics after she was stopped by a Norwalk patrol officer who said she was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to turn while in a left turn only lane.

The officer said he observed her car traveling at high speed on Wall Street, and after failing to turn left, he stopped her on West Avenue at 1:36 a.m.

The officer reported that when he approached her, she had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were red and glazed. He said she asked him why he stopped her and told him she had just come from a bar and wanted to go home.

The woman, later identified as Irene Larusso, failed a field sobriety test, according to the officer. He said he found a folded piece of paper on Larusso containing a green, leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana.

He also reported finding a glass smoking pipe containing marijuana residue in her pocketbook, along with a pack of Marlboro cigarettes that contained a small baggy with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine.

The officer said Larusso told him the pocketbook in her car was not hers and she must have picked up the wrong one in the bar.

Larusso, 48, of 27 Alpine Rd., was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alchohol, possession of narcotics, possession of drug parapheralia, failure to drive right, and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

She was held on $2,000 bond and given a court date of May 24.
