Larceny, forgery arrests

Greenwich Police have arrested a town man who is accused of stealing a checkbook from a relative and forged 18 checks.

Police said they obtained an arrest warrant for Jose Velasquez, 47, of 71 Vinci Drive, who was arrested at 11:45 a.m. Friday. He was charged with 18 counts each of third-degree forgery, a misdemeanor, and ID theft, a felony; and one count of fourth-degree larceny.

According to police, Velasquez is accused of stealing the checkbook last November and during a two-month period forged the signature of a relative to cash 18 checks for a total of about $1,400.

He was held in lieu of $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear March 4 in state Superior Court in Stamford

A 13-year-old Greenwich teen was arrested on a sixth-degree larceny charge in connection with the theft of a bicycle outside the Glory Days Diner on East Putnam Avenue.

Officers were called to the 69 E. Putnam Ave. eatery about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. According to the police report, the suspect admitted to taking the bicycle and officers recovered it at his home. He was released in the custody of a parent and was a March 7 date to appear in the juvenile division of state Superior Court in Stamford.

A Mamaroneck, NY man faces motor vehicle charges including driving while intoxicated after Greenwich Police say he was stopped for running a red light early Sunday on Mill Street at North Water Street.

Andrew J. Rio, 30, who gave an address of 1513 Henry Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to obey traffic control device and unsafe movement in connection with the 4:14 a.m. incident. According to a police report, Rio failed a field sobriety test.

He was held in lieu of $300 bond and scheduled to appear March 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Greenwich Police and a Stamford Police canine unit searched a Byram neighborhood Thursday night trying to find whomever broke into a Mead Avenue home and made off with “expensive jewelry.”

According to Greenwich, the resident returned home about 6:30 p.m. to find the front door forced open and his flat screen television and assorted electronic equipment including computers and cameras, stacked beside the door. The entire house was ransacked, police said.

Police had assistance from a Stamford Police canine unit to search the area for suspects, but none were found. Details on the missing jewelry were not available.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man on second- and third-degree larceny charges, both felonies, on Thursday.

Police said Robert Brockmann, of Westerly, RI, surrendered to officers who obtained an arrest warrant Jan. 31 from state Superior Court in Stamford. Brockmann is accused of stealing diamond jewelry and silverware from a North Street home last November. Police have recovered the items. Brockmann was released after posting $300 bond and scheduled to appear March 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
