Man Faces Charges He Assaulted Officers Investigating Crash

Greenwich Police say the suspect had a switchblade in his pocket.


A man is facing assault and weapons charges in connection with an investigation of a car crash he was in, according to Greenwich Police.

According police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, the suspect was involved in a car crash in which he was injured on Nov. 13, 2013 on Weaver Street. The man is accused of "spitting and trying to bite investigating officers and threatening them with bodily harm," Gray said. Officers found a switchblade in the man's pocket.

Police obtained a warrant charging Jeffrey Caviola, 31, of 21 Greenway Dr., Greenwich, with carrying a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer and following too close. Caviola surrendered at police headquarters at 10 a.m. March 3.

Caviola was released after posting a $750 bond. He is scheduled to appear March 10 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
