Man Faces DWI Charge

Greenwich Police say Rye Brook, NY man arrested after crossing double yellow line.

A 21-year-old Rye Brook, NY man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and failure to drive right after a Greenwich Police officer said he saw the man cross the double-yellow line on Byram Road early sunday..

Oscar I. Freire, who gave an address of 30 Westview Ave., Rye Brook, was arrested shortly after 2 a.m., Jan. 29. According to a police report, Freire was scene crossing the double yellow line as he turned from Frontage Road onto Byram Road and again on a curve near the Metro-North Railroad bridge.

Freire is accused of failing sobriety tests. He was released after posting $250 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A Greenwich man was arrested over the weekend on a second-degree failure to appear in court charge stemming from an October arrest on motor vehicle charges.

Charles E. Branch, 39, who gave an address of 12 Coachlamp Ln., Greenwich, surrendered at 8:40 p.m., Jan. 29, to Greenwich Police who obtained an arrest warrant charging him with failure to appear Dec. 1, 2011 in state Superior Court in Stamford on charges of operating with a suspended license and improper turn.

Branch was released after posting $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 6 in court.

Greenwich Police are investigating the apparent burglary of a Bedford Road home during which silver and jewelry were taken by thieves who gained access through a ground floor window.

The burglary was reported shortly after 10 a.m. Jan. 29 by a housekeeper. Police said it has not been determined where the theft occurred because the housekeeper had not been in the wing of the home where the theft occurred for a few days.d
