Man Faces Robbery Charge in Byram Incident

A man faces a variety of charges including robbery following an incident in a Byram cellphone store.

According to Greenwich Police, the 40-year-old suspect is accused of entering the 1 N. Water St. Store just after 3:30 p.m. June 6 and began soliciting money from customers. A store employee told Michael Johnson, of 45 Smith St., Port Chester, NY, to leave. Before fleeing the store, the suspect reportedly demanded cash or merchandise from the employee as he pointed to his waistband and told the employee he had a knife, police said.

Johnson was caught a few blocks away on Chestnut Street and fought with arresting officers, police said.

Johnson was charged with second-degree robbery, breach of peace, threatening and interfering with a police officer. He was held on a $1,500 bond and scheduled to appear June 18 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
