Man Falsely Reports He Was Robbed

Greenwich Police charge man from Port Chester; other suspects face drug, weapons, DWI charges.

A 21-year-old Port Chester, NY man was arrested on charges he lied to Greenwich Police by reporting he was a robbery victim.

Jhonathan Cataneo, who gave an address of 146 Smith St., Port Chester, was arrested after he surrendered at Greenwich Police headquarters on Jan. 31, according to a police report released Feb. 7. The report said, Cataneo "had previously provided voluntary sworn statement regarding an armed robbery" on Sept. 8, 2011.

He was charged with first-degree false statement and interfering with an officer. He was released after posting $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

The driver of a car seen traveling at a high rate of speed through the intersection of Lewis Street and Greenwich Avenue shortly before 4:30 a.m. Feb. 5 was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge.

According to Greenwich Police, Thomas J. Imbrogno, 21, who gave an address of 70 Lewis St., also was ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign after he failed field sobriety tests, according to a police report. He was released after posting $250 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

An Old Greenwich man was arrested on weapons and motor vehicle charges after Greenwich Police initially stopped him for allegedly speeding on East Putnam Avenur shortly after 4 a.m. Feb. 4.

According to a police report, the man was seen traveling at a high rate of speed near 500 E. Putnam Avenue. Police said they could smell alcohol on the breath of the driver who also had glassy, bloodshot eyes. An officer noticed what looked like a semi-automatic handgun partially concealed  beneath the front passenger seat. It turned out to be a plastic replica of a BB pistol, according to the report.

Jose A. Marrero, 31, who gave an address of 14 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich, was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, traveling unreasonably fast and driving while intoxicated. He was released after posting $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Police investigating a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink arrested a Greenwich man on drug related charges.

Douglas A. Strathlee, 18, who gave an address of 74 Summit Rd., Greenwich, was charged with illegal possession of marijuana of less than a half-ounce and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He is accused of having the pot while inside a car with an unidentified adult and 2 minors. He was released on a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 13 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A 16-year-old Greenwich teen escaped serious injury after Greenwich Police say she fell asleep while driving and crashed her 2003 Hyundai into a utility pole on North Street early Sunday.

The unidentified driver was treated and released from Greenwich Hospital for  minor injuries, according to Sgt. John Slusarz. Slusarz said the teen "fell asleep, drifted across the lanes and hit a pole. The car snapped the pole." The teen was on her way home from work.

Slusarz said she was issued a ticket for unsafe movement and operating outside curfew. Sixteen-year-olds are not permitted to drive after 11 p.m. Her license was confiscated by police, he said. The teen and a parent or guardian must meet with traffic police before her license can be reinstated.

Her court date was not provided by police.
