Man Pleads Guilty to Murder of Ex-Town Resident

Fashion publicist could face life in jail for the murder of Sarah Coit.

 

A New York fashion publicist has pleaded guilty to murdering former Riverside resident Sarah Coit.

Raul Barrera, 33, pleaded guilty to the April 2011 murder of Coit, at a New York City court proceeding Monday, according to the New York Post. and a member of the cross country team, was killed in the couple's Lower East Side apartment in Manhattan during an argument with Barrera.

Coit was reportedly trying to break up with Barrera. Coit was repeatedly stabbed and Barrera surrendered to police a short time later saying "I did something bad."

According to the New York Post, Barrera could be sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in coming weeks. Barrera reportedly worked as a vice president of the public relations firm Coleman Entertainment Group.
