Man's Yelling, Obscene Gestures Ends With Arrest

Greenwich Police also make arrests for trespassing in Belle Haven and DWI.

 

A man, whom Greenwich Police say was drunk, was arrested Wednesday evening after creating a disturbance by yelling at cars parked in front of a Riverside liquor shop.

According to a police report, Michael A. Atkins, 49, of 3 Sayles St., Cos Cob, was charged with second-degree breach of peace, in connetion with the incident just beofre 7 p.m., Aug. 8. Atkins is accused of yelling at cars parked in front of All the Best Spirits, 1155 E. Putnam Ave., and of being verbally abusive and making obscene gestures while inside the store.

He was released on a promise to appear Aug. 15, in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A motorist seen crossing the double yellow line on Stanwich Road, near Londonderry Drive late Tuesday was arrested on drunk driving and speeding charges by Greenwich Police.

Henry R. Minchin, 38, of 15 Carissa Ln., Greenwich, was described in a police report has having a "confused expression," "bloodshot and glassy" eyes, and mumbling "incoherently" when he was stopped by police just before midnight Aug. 7. Minchin allegedly failed field sobriety tests.

He also was charged with failure to maintain lane. He was released on $250 bond and he scheduled to appear Aug. 22 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Elderly couple charged with trespassing

An elderly Darien couple apparently aren't welcome in the waterfront neighborhood of Belle Haven.

According to Greenwich Police, the couple was issued misdemeanor summons Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly ignored previous police orders not to return the area of Bush Avenue, a private road in the neighborhood. The couple was described as not knowing anyone who lived in the neighborhood.

Linda Mead, 72, and William J. Mead, 84, both of 137 Hollow Tree Ridge Rd., Darien, each received misdemeanor summons on a third-degree criminal trespass charge. The report did not indicate why the couple was in the neighborhood.

Each was released on a promise to appear Aug. 15 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
