MV Stop in Byram Yields Loaded Gun, Arrests

Greenwich police at 1:24 a.m. Monday arrested a pair of Stamford residents on gun and motor vehicle charges after discovering a loaded weapon in the car during a stop in Byram.

Carissa J. Giroux, of 10 Berkeley St., was charged or cited with sixth-degree larceny, weapons in a motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plate, failure to display a plate, operating a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle with a license, failure to use proper head and rear lights on a parked motor vehicle, illegal tinted glass and no insurance.

Yves J. Singer, of 10 Berkeley St., was charged with criminal possession of a pistol, weapons in a motor vehicle and sixth-degree larceny.

Police stopped a black Mercedes operated by Giroux, with Singer s a passenger, at Henry Street and Byram Road after a scan revealed that the license plate had been stolen, according to a police report.

During the stop, Singer told police that he knew the plate didn’t belong on the car he was in, though it was his, the report said.

During a search of the car, a loaded firearm was found in the passenger seat pocket, and a subsequent search on Singer showed that he was prohibited from possessing a firearm, police said.

Singer was held on $20,000 bond and scheduled to appear Nov. 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
