NJ Man Gets Prison for Greenwich Embezzlement Case

Suspect admitted padding his paychecks by $85K.

A New Jersey man, who admitted padding his paychecks from a Greenwich equity firm, has been sentenced to 6 months in jail.

According to Connecticut's U.S. Attorney David B. Fein, Charles Bradley Simpson, 34, of Wyckoff, NJ, was sentenced Feb. 22 by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford to six months of imprisonment, followed by six months of home confinement and two years of supervised release, for embezzling approximately $85,000 from his Greenwich employer. The sentence is based on Simpson's guilty plea to one count wire fraud on Aug. 3, 2011.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Simpson worked as the controller for a private equity firm in Greenwich. In his role as controller, Simpson was responsible for overseeing the company’s payroll functions. On approximately 40 occasions between January 2008 and April 2010, Simpson accessed the company’s Internet-based payroll service provider’s computer network and added amounts to be paid to him purportedly as reimbursement for expenses when, in fact, he had never incurred those expenses. Through this scheme, Simpson embezzled $85,207.55, according to Fein's office.
